Scope
Our twin mission is as follows:
to create an on-line archive of standards-based
Classical Islmaic texts and images in the Islamic Studies in Arabic and
English.
to build and support a loyal user community of
eLibrary adept at the creation and use of online resources
Form
HTML, the de facto Internet standard allows us to create data in universally
usable manner. Some, like SGML, are de
jure standards; others like tiff, gif, jpeg are ubiquitous de facto ones.
Data that owns its own structures -
tagged data that needs only ASCII to survive is central to our digital library
production; it networks well, is not beholden to any piece of software for its
existence, and it allows products from multiple sources to be accessed together
through a common web-based interface.
Medium
Online delivery is the dominant delivery
More and more users
expect the digital library to come to them, wherever they happen to be. This
should be a fundamental aspect of our service.
Data that is
delivered to only on CD-ROM in proprietary formats is too often orphaned in
today's Internet enabled world..
Audience
Muslims living and working in the Western world, students, researchers, scholars and Middle East departments. Moreover, Islamic schools in the west and Muslim world at large. The user base is estimated to grow to tens of thousands per day, inShaAllah.
